A Weekend in Milan

9 May 2022

Milan

Milan is a hub in Italy, for business, fashion and as a traditional working city while being home to the national stock exchange. It has incredible architecture, shopping that you’ll remember forever, a well-known Aperitivo culture and delicious typical dishes, and beautiful historic sites.

Where to shop in Milan

Milan is a world fashion capital, hence it being a great city to go shopping, especially for luxury goods! Here you have the chance to shop all of the top designers and high-end fashion items. So, if for example you’re in the market for a new watch, check out the local boutiques and maybe take a look at the Rolex Italy price list, that may differ from the ones of your country.

If you love boutiques, shop in the Quadrilatero, Brera, and 5 Vie areas. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and fun places like 10 Corso Como are places to check for high-end experiences. And if you want to purchase some classic Italian food items that you can take home with you, head to Italy for high-quality classic products that will help you be able to bring a little piece of Italy back.

What to see in Milan

There is a lot to see and do in Milan, and it is well worth thinking through which sites you want to see while you’re here to get and see the most out of your time here! Some of the main attractions and monuments here are the:

  • Duomo Cathedral

The center of Milan is the Duomo, the second-largest cathedral in the world. It is of Gothic architecture, having taken over five centuries to complete its construction.

  • Sforza Castle

The Sforzas ruled Milan during the 15th and 16th centuries and the castle is now home to beautiful art galleries and museums.

  • La Scala

If you love the opera, plan ahead to see a show at La Scala. It is a neoclassical theatre that draws incredible performers and is an experience to go to. Even if you don’t go to a show here, it is well worth walking by to take in the architecture from the outside.

  • Navigli

Navigili is a charming district located along the canals in Milan that people go to for restaurants, cafes and the famous aperitivo. It is lovely to walk along during the day and if you want a taste of the nightlife and bustling energy in the city, head here around 5 and spend your evening here.

  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele

Located just off the Duomo Cathedral, you’ll find Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. It is a famous place to go in Milan for shopping, as it is beautiful shopping mall that is a site that was not destroyed during WWII. You can walk around and look at the beautiful stores, and you’ll see people spinning three times on the mosaic bull for good luck.

Overall Milan is a city with a ton of character, beauty and quintessential Italian charm that makes it a city well worth a visit. You can fly into Milan and/or easily get there via train from other places in Europe as well as around Italy.

Have you ever been to Milan or do you plan to go?
