My New Year’s Resolutions

29 October 2021

New year, new me – right? Actually, I don’t like to think so! I don’t like the idea of feeling the need to reinvent yourself every year, but I do love that every year you’ve got the perfect opportunity to come up with some goals for yourself. So while I might not be setting resolutions per se, I am definitely making a conscious effort to make some improvements in my life and using the New Year as an excuse to get the ball rolling. So if that counts as a resolution, I guess that’s what it is! Here are my New Year’s resolutions for 2022.

Get more organised

While I do work from home and am largely responsible for my own schedule, I am definitely not somebody who uses a planner. I manage my workload based on what I’m able to get done on a daily basis, which means that I can be really productive on some days and get nothing done on others. While overall this does work for me and my lifestyle, I want to get into planning to manage my workload as well as things like keeping track of doctors’ appointments, pain journals, and even appointments for the pets.

Mental Health

I really think it’s time to get help with my mental health and to start looking after my mind more. I’ve been looking into private psychiatry to deal with my problems and to improve my mental health overall. I know lots of people who have had help and they all say how great it is, having that support, advice, and someone to really listen has helped them no end! There’s no shame in getting help for your mental health, in fact, more people than ever are being open with their struggles which helps others feel less alone.

Make progress with the remortgage

I’ve talked before about improvements that I want to make to my house which I will remortgage, and I want to make real progress with that in 2022. I’ve been keeping an eye on mortgage trends and considering how much I will be able to afford all year, and it feels like the right time to get moving with things. Looking at affordability is so easy when you use a good remortgage calculator, so I’m really excited that next year might be the year that things start to happen.

Improve my business knowledge

Because I am self-employed, I don’t have an employer who can regularly tell me about training days I need to complete to update my knowledge. This means that I am responsible for always staying up to date, and I want to keep up with that in 2022. I might consider taking a short course in online marketing, for example, so that I know I am doing the very best for my blog.

Buy more plants

It’s scientifically proven that plants are better for your mental health, and yet I never think to have any greenery around me. I think it’s especially important to get some plants into my environment since I work from home and therefore don’t often go outside or have a change of scenery, My only stipulation is that they need to be plants that don’t require a lot of work, because I don’t have the greenest of thumbs, but there is a whole range of plants that are still able to thrive with minimal effort.

Start a new hobby

I’m not much of a ‘hobby’ person, but a lot of my downtime is spent playing Call of Duty on my Playstation, and I’d love to expand my horizons and pick up something new. I find that having a hobby is a great way to focus my downtime on something that is fulfilling and keeps my mind occupied. My last hobby before gaming was blogging, but since my blog is my business now I don’t think I can count it as a hobby anymore!

Do you believe in setting New Years Resolutions? If not, do you have any general goals for 2022? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
